Hofstra University is currently ranked 518 out of 2,718 nationwide in terms of diversity among students. Although this statistic may be far above average, not many students are satisfied.

According to a recent climate survey done by the university during the Fall of 2017, it is home to 6,861 undergraduates and 3,018 graduates. Out of these students, 45.2 percent are members of ethnic minorities.

Gisela Factora, a sophomore journalism major, said, “Being at Hofstra, which is a predominantly white institution, as a person of color can be super alienating.”

“It’s something I never had to contend with before I came to Hofstra, because I grew up in L.A. County which is a super diverse area,” Factora said.
